Heavy tension broke out on Panchanantala Rd in Kadam Tala, Howrah, after CPI(M) workers alleged they were attacked by supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The incident occurred when Left party workers were returning after concluding a campaign at the Election Commission office, triggering a brief confrontation in the area.
CPI(M) workers alleged that Abhishek Chatterjee, President of the Central Howrah Youth Trinamool, was also present at the spot during the incident. However, the Trinamool Congress leadership rejected the allegations and termed them baseless.
Considering the seriousness of the situation and the prevailing election atmosphere, a large deployment of police personnel and central forces was made at the site to control the situation. Tension continues to prevail in the area while police have begun a detailed investigation into the incident.
